Yayasan ini lahir dari perjumpaan antara seniman-akademisi yang datang dan tinggal di Dusun Tutup Ngisor, dengan para seniman-petani yang telah lama berkarya dan menjaga tradisi di sana. Melalui pertemuan-pertemuan ini para seniman-akademisi terpukau oleh para seniman-petani yang tinggal di lokasi terpencil namun sangat kosmopolit, menekankan potensi untuk berkontribusi di era 'bekerja dari mana saja'. Padepokan Seni Tjipta Boedaja—rumah kolektif para seniman ini—menjadikan Yayasan Ben Pinter Tenan sebagai jembatan menuju cita-cita di luar praktik kesenian, termasuk merintis lembaga pendidikan berbasis kebudayaan.

This foundation emerged from a reciprocal encounter between scholar-artists who came to stay and live in the hamlet of Tutup Ngisor and the farmer-artists who have long nurtured artistic and cultural traditions there. Through this encounter, the scholar-artists were awestruck by the farmer-artists who live in remote area but yet very cosmopolite, encouraging the potential to contribute in the era of 'working from anywhere'. Padepokan Seni Tjipta Boedaja—the collective home of these artists—sees Yayasan Ben Pinter Tenan as a bridge to realize aspirations beyond artistic practice, including the creation of a culture-based educational institution.
